Beach Soccer Carnival comes to an end in 08

What an absolutely fantastic weekend of beach soccer. Two days of glorious sunshine and the smell of the beach created another fantastic event.
Both the women's and men's beach soccer teams put on a wonderful display of both fairness and a lot of creative flair.

The winners for the women's division was eventually won by Kryptonite, who had gone through the tournament undefeated. A very good effort by Shooting stars who showed glimpses of brilliance but needed that little bit extra to get over the dominate Kryptonite. With Melinda Aloisio leading the team in the final, shooting stars had their moments with Nurin making plenty of good saves and being player of the finals. All had a ball and vowed to keep on coming back.

A tough two days in the men's competitions. With all groups going down to the wire in the last games.The top two of each group went through and played in long hard games which both ended up in penalties. Teams that went to the finals were Les Bons Garcons V Sombo Boys. The other two teams, Beach Combers and Scoring Gents played in a 3rd & 4th playoff which was eventually won by beach Combers.

The final was both exciting and tense with both teams trying to put quick pressure on. There was 3 periods of strong and hard beach soccer but the Sombo boys proved to strong and finished their chances. It ended up being 4 - 0 and in the end a deserved winner.

All teams participating ought to be congratulated as they all displayed some fine beach soccer skills and played with respect to one another which was quite pleasing. All teams thoroughly enjoyed the carnival and hoped to be back again.

Keep an eye out for more tournaments in the future, but November will be a mainstay at St Kilda beach annually.
